This time next week I’ll be in labor.  If I’m lucky and the whole process is fast, I’ll already be a mom.  Kayvan and I have decided to count down to the next milestone which is our trip to L&D THIS Sunday night.  That means we are 6 days away!  That means this is my last week in the High Risk Pregnancy Department…or HRP as we familiar with hospital lingo call it.  This morning, as the lights were yanked on by the lab tech at exactly 6:00 a.m. (I just love being the first on the list) I realized that this is the LAST time I will be pulled from my beauty rest to be stuck in the arm and have the blood sucked from my body at such an hour.  Now, I am expecting the need for blood work at the end of this week…and an IV…and other medical interventions that I do not want to think about right now.  But they won’t be waking me at 6a.m. for blood draws anymore!!!  I’m looking forward to this week of “lasts.”  Some of them, like the blood draws, I’m happy to see go.  Others, like the non stress tests (yes, NSTs), ultrasounds, hearing baby’s heart rate every 4 hours during vitals and just being pregnant in general I know I’m really going to miss.  I’m sure having a baby in my arms will trump all of this. Day 75: 34 Weeks–13 Days to go!

Yes, I said 13 days to go and no, I didn’t miscount.  I got a call from the doctor’s office this morning informing me that they have scheduled my induction date.  The woman on the other end said, that she was just calling to inform me that they have scheduled my induction for the 21st and that I should arrive at the hospital the evening prior at 8:00 p.m. to begin the induction process.  I giggled and told her I’m already AT the hospital.  Without skipping a beat, she responded that she should have paid closer attention and that the doctors will fill me in on the formalities later today.  Just before I hung up the phone I realized that she said the 21st and not the 22nd.  Assuming she was looking at some sort of formal paper that I was not, I said…wait, you said the 21st, not the 22nd?!  She confirmed that I heard correctly and I hung up the phone.  If the nurse weren’t in here when I took the call I may have celebrated by jumping on my bed!  Okay, maybe I wouldn’t have jumped on my bed but you get the idea.  I was excited.  Continue Reading Day 75: 34 Weeks–13 Days to go!…

The end of this marathon…no…ironman race of a hospital stay is near! We have an official induction date! The fellow came in today and said that they scheduled my induction for 3/22. That is 15 days away!!! Yippeeee! We were hoping for 3/21 since that is typically the date the Persian new year falls upon each year (it is 3/20 this year) but it really doesn’t matter. I am VERY happy we are now talking induction rather than c-section. I had a million and a half questions for the doctors but the fellow didn’t seem to have answers for me. I asked if cervidil is safe to use since I’m ruptured or if we would start with pitocin. The fellow said that my doctors are better to discuss that with me but cytotec is safe to use on ruptured patients. I just did a VERY preliminary google search on cytotec, skimmed the results and do not like what I see about that drug.

As I have now been here for 10 weeks, the fact that I have not had a full night of sleep for that length of time is really starting to affect my sunny personality.  If you think the standard new mom who returns to work is grumpy, you may not want to meet me 9 – 11 weeks from now when I make my return.  Sorry, co-workers, I promise to really try to be nice and awake, and happy.  If for some reason I show up at work and and am not as chipper as you think I should be, remember this, “Iced, Grande, Soy, White Mocha.”  Continue Reading Day 70: 10 Weeks…

We have officially made it to 33 weeks!  Just one week left until they schedule me for induction and 3 weeks left until I am 36 weeks.  We are just trucking along now!  I have never been one to wish away time but things change and I want the next three weeks to FLY by.  After that, time can slow down again.

Kayvan and I spent some time yesterday laughing at the baby sticking his booty out to the right of his belly button.  This boy was STRETCHING and my belly was SO lopsided.  I said to Kayvan, “There he goes, showing his ass again.”  To which Kayvan responded, “Looks like he got your butt!”  Continue Reading Day 68: 33 Weeks!…

Day 67: Sherpa Sookie

I shared a midday picture of Sookie on her way to see me yesterday!  Well, she made it and with her, she brought momma some chicken nuggets and french fries from McDonalds.  The amount of McDonalds I have eaten during this pregnancy is obscene.  Especially since in the 8 years prior to being pregnant I maybe had McDonalds 4 times.  I can’t help it, their french fries and BBQ sauce are the best combination EVER.  It has been a favorite of mine since childhood.  Being pregnant, it is impossible to abstain.

Sookie arrived via Sherpa (bag), hopped out and sniffed around the room.  We ended up having to sneak her in because the pet people never called us back to give us a “golden ticket” which is just a little permission slip to give security.  Sookie seriously loves her Sherpa.  Leave it to a lazy doggie.  It really didn’t involve much sneaking since once Kayvan hits our floor the nurses all want to say hi to our girl.

Man, we are climbing those numbers, aren’t we?  Last week was a long week for me so I’m happy 31 weeks is finally here.  I’m hopeful the rest of my time in here will continue to go by quickly.  I’m slowly working my way up to the longest standing resident in here, that’s for sure!  Not exactly the prize every pregnant woman wants, but considering the alternative…I’ll take it!  Next up?  32 weeks!  Continue Reading Day 54: 31 Weeks!…

Day 48: Ultrasound

It took forever for them to get to my ultrasound today.  I dragged my feet showering because I was worried as soon as I got in they would come get me and make me get out of my oh so enjoyable shower.  I showered uninterrupted this morning.  I did however make it about 1/2 way through lunch before I was interrupted for the ultrasound.  I just got back to my bed after waiting Continue Reading Day 48: Ultrasound…

Day 41: About Those Nurses Again…

Yesterday as I was eating my way out of this hospital room I got a knock on my door.  I was totally noshing on tortillas and cheese after nothing healthy would fix my insatiable hunger.  The person who opened the door looked so baffled, was also pregnant and looked just plain lost.  So with a smile I asked her if she was looking for my room number.  She said yes, looked around my room and realized once she saw the Christmas tree we still have up that she had the right person.  As soon as she opened her mouth and started talking I realized that the woman at my door was a nurse of mine from Labor and Delivery!  I was so surprised to see her and was even more surprised that she remembered me between all of her patients.  I felt bad that I didn’t recognize her but keep in mind I had horrible double/blurred vision the entire time I was in L&D and was totally out of it.  Continue Reading Day 41: About Those Nurses Again……

Day 25: Ultrasound Today!

We just got back from our ultrasound and I am all smiles!  I love getting to see this little guy…even if it is only to measure the tummy and the legs and the fluid, etc. and I have to ask very very nicely to see his little face.  Now I don’t know the scale of measurement (I think it is cubic centimeters or just centimeters) but when we were admitted on 12/23 there was 3.5 of fluid.  We had a scary morning on 12/27 and had an ultrasound to measure fluid only and we were down to 1.3 of fluid.  As of this morning the fluid levels are back up to 3.1.  Still really low.  Any amount less than 8 is considered low.  The tech also measured his approximate weight.  At last measure, little guy was 1 lb 6 oz and now, 25 days later he is up to 2 lbs 4 oz.  I cannot put into words how happy I am that he is over 2 lbs!  The very reason I am all smiles.  As I said earlier, I asked very nicely for a picture of his little face.  The tech was super sweet and tried to get a good one for us.  She explained that with the low fluid levels the images never really come out well.  As you can see for yourself, she wasn’t exaggerating.  It also doesn’t help that the image below is a picture of a picture.  It is kind of like one of those 3D puzzles.  If you squint really hard you might be able to get the idea.  The top arrow is his left eye and the bottom is pointing at his nose.  I think that is a hand on the bottom right of his face but it is so dark over there that it is tough to tell.  If I were a gambling woman, I would put my money on this little bit looking JUST like Continue Reading Day 25: Ultrasound Today!…
