Day 69: Chugging Along

Knowing that the boy is doing really well cooking on the inside, I no longer feel guilty counting down the days.  We don’t have an official induction date yet and am told we will get that next weeks sometime.  BUT.  I can count down to 36 weeks.  So that means we have 2 weeks 6 days  to go!  Yesterday the Nurse Manager checked in with us and Kayvan asked about the record for the longest stay.  I am very happy to announce that I will NOT be beating the record of 110 days.  110 days.  Poor woman.  If I go to 36 weeks exactly it will be a little over 90 days in the hospital and that is including recovery from the delivery. Day 68: 33 Weeks!

We have officially made it to 33 weeks!  Just one week left until they schedule me for induction and 3 weeks left until I am 36 weeks.  We are just trucking along now!  I have never been one to wish away time but things change and I want the next three weeks to FLY by.  After that, time can slow down again.

Kayvan and I spent some time yesterday laughing at the baby sticking his booty out to the right of his belly button.  This boy was STRETCHING and my belly was SO lopsided.  I said to Kayvan, “There he goes, showing his ass again.”  To which Kayvan responded, “Looks like he got your butt!”  Continue Reading Day 68: 33 Weeks!…

Day 67: Sherpa Sookie

I shared a midday picture of Sookie on her way to see me yesterday!  Well, she made it and with her, she brought momma some chicken nuggets and french fries from McDonalds.  The amount of McDonalds I have eaten during this pregnancy is obscene.  Especially since in the 8 years prior to being pregnant I maybe had McDonalds 4 times.  I can’t help it, their french fries and BBQ sauce are the best combination EVER.  It has been a favorite of mine since childhood.  Being pregnant, it is impossible to abstain.

Sookie arrived via Sherpa (bag), hopped out and sniffed around the room.  We ended up having to sneak her in because the pet people never called us back to give us a “golden ticket” which is just a little permission slip to give security.  Sookie seriously loves her Sherpa.  Leave it to a lazy doggie.  It really didn’t involve much sneaking since once Kayvan hits our floor the nurses all want to say hi to our girl.

Me, me, meeee!!!

My poor husband deserves an award.  Most days, I have to admit, I am a remarkably awesome person to spend all of your time with.  Yesterday was NOT one of those days.  I wasn’t grumpy or mean, I was just a total whiny pain.  I cannot tell you how many times “I’m BORRRRRRRRED” came out of my mouth.  He knew to do nothing about my complaint.  I have plenty to do and have always been a self starter.  He knows that if I really and truly wanted to do something about my boredom I could have picked up a book (I have about 20 that I still need to make my way through), I could crochet, watch a DVD, play on the internet, call or text with friends, the list goes on…I have plenty to DO.  Problem is, yesterday just was not a patient day for me and I was SO not up for the repetition.  It didn’t help that we lost about 10 channels on TV here, one being TLC.  I don’t know how that happens but it has happened once before during my 9 week stay.  So I re-discovered an old addiction.  Bejeweled on my phone. Day 65: I Want New Clothes

Not that I can wear them or anything, but I want new clothes.  New, non-maternity clothes…that aren’t nightgowns…and that are in my pre-pregnancy size.  I miss my clothes in general.  I miss my maternity clothes which I was only able to wear once or twice.  I’m sure I’ll be wearing the maternity jeans for a few weeks postpartum.  I may even get to wear a sweater or two before I shove them in storage boxes, depending on the weather when I get out of here.  The other day The Limited, one of my favorite stores had 40% off of all of their clothes in store and online.  I will have a new job when I go back to work and I think that warrants a few new clothes.  If that doesn’t, sitting in here for weeks on end most certainly does.  Trouble is, I don’t have any idea what size I will be once Continue Reading Day 65: I Want New Clothes…

Day 64: Who the Hell is Dr. Red?

Before I start, don’t forget that today is THE LAST DAY to enter your vote to win a free custom made hat!

We have learned many things during our stay in the hospital.  How to live with each other in one room for months.  Which, surprisingly has been easy for us.  How to get a decent night of sleep with interruptions every 4 hours, and how to get around eating hospital food (thank god for awesome cooks in the family).  In my old room we could hear  when emergencies were coming into the ER.  They announce “Code [blue/yellow] ETA [xx minutes] by [ground/air].  On New Year’s Eve we estimated lots of codes over the loudspeaker but we were surprisingly wrong.  We figured out that code blue is in really bad shape and lots of them come via air (I’m sure my friend who works in the ER here would describe it differently), and code yellow isn’t doing so hot either but isn’t as bad as code blue.  Sometimes code yellow’s are upgraded to code blue and that is no good.  One thing we could NOT figure out was this whole Dr. Red thing.  And those announcements are always very very loud.  Sometimes at 4 a.m., waking us up. Day 63: Sookie Update

Our little French Bulldog pup has been staying with our awesome friends as I have mentioned a few times previously.  She e-mails us a lot and when she does I post it to this blog.  Sookie says she likes our friends, their dog and their twins.  The twins like her too.  Last week, little Lucy told her momma that Sookie is her best friend.

Day 61: 32 WEEKS!!!

We have hit another huge milestone and I cannot believe it. I AM EIGHT MONTHS PREGNANT!!! I’m doing a darn good job of keeping my New Year’s Resolution so far. I hear reminders from the nurses at least once a week as to how far we have made it on this journey. It really is insane to think that we came in at 23 weeks. We HAVE come a long way. I am so thankful that Kayvan has been here for me every single step of the way. I know I have said it again and again but family and friends have been so amazing to us as well. Watching our pets, keeping us fed, keeping the hospital food out of my mouth and helping us prepare for the boy who has made it more than evident that he simply cannot wait to meet you all.

Baby is in a good spot–much better than the prognosis of “If you can make it to 24 weeks the baby will have a 50% chance of survival.” According to the ultrasounds he should now be able to breathe on his own outside of the womb. Hopefully he will soon have the ability to maintain his temperature and eat on his own as well. Kayvan and I were just talking last night about the fact that we went from the possibility of having a preemie in the NICU for months to having an almost full term baby hopefully come home with us…or worst case in the NICU for a few weeks. The kid isn’t here yet and we won’t know anything about how he will do until he is born. All things considered so far, we have a lot to be thankful for. Our next big milestone is 36 weeks. That is only a month away. I expect that the doctors will give me an induction date about 2 weeks from now.

I mentioned yesterday that I made quite a few new hats. They are now up for sale on Etsy. Click the photo below to be taken to the listing. I am also working on a custom order for a dinosaur hat and papoose. I can’t wait to finish it and show it to you! I should have it finished tomorrow. Don’t forget to enter the contest for a custom made hat. The deadline of February 25th is rapidly approaching!!

Now that the boy is at 32 weeks the non stress tests are a bit different. Instead of 10 and 10s, which I explained earlier are that baby has to increase his heart rate by 10 beats per minute 10 times in 10 minutes, he has to do 15 and 15s. Same concept but replace the “10” in the previous sentence with “15.” …or something like that… But, he didn’t get that memo today. He showed us lots of good variability but wasn’t quite pulling 15 and 15s. I sat on the monitors for an hour before the nurse took me off and asked if the strip looked okay enough or if I had to go for a biophysical profile ultrasound. Doc cut him a break and said the strip looked good enough.

Another new thing today is that my legs turn PURPLE after I take a shower. Mind you, I am supposed to sit on a shower stool and I do what I’m told since I don’t want my shower privileges taken away. It seems my legs have gotten used to this whole bed rest thing and figure I no longer need good circulation. Since that isn’t really the case and I would prefer to avoid blood clots should I end up with a c-section at the end o fall this, I got a new accessory to my hospital wardrobe. Compression sock thingies. They are pretty neat actually. They aren’t really socks but cuffs that go on each legs. They act sort of like a blood pressure cuff, squeezing and releasing on each leg to encourage circulation. It feels like a massage so I told Kayvan that he can now get away with only rubbing my feet. Hope these work!

Day 60: I Think Kayvan is Nesting

As the subject line says, I think Kayvan is nesting.  Really.  He may have pregnancy brain too.  Last night he mentioned how badly he needs to go spend time at home and straighten the house up.  Of course, I told him to go and spend some time there today since he had the day off work.  He is a pretty tidy person in general but the fact that he is so worried about getting the house straight frightens me a bit.  I don’t want to imagine what my house looks like right now.  He says that he just wants to finish the baby’s room, get clothes cleaned and get all of the boxes from the new stuff we have out of the house.  I mean, the Christmas tree is still up.  Let’s face it, our house is being a bit neglected at the Continue Reading Day 60: I Think Kayvan is Nesting…

Day 59: Fun Day with Family

My dad, brother and future sister-in-law, Kelly came to visit today.  With them they brought the Christmas presents they got for the baby.  It was quite a flash back to see Christmas paper in the room.  They even said they felt a bit silly carrying Christmas wrapping paper up to the room.  I had a rule on the 23rd.  No baby presents.  I didn’t know a) if I could handle it and b) how baby would be if he were born understanding the risks of him being born so soon.  So today we opened baby presents.  And they were all incredibly adorable.  Of course, my brother got a bunch of football related attire for our boy.  A cute little hibiscus printed onsie/polo really cracked me up.  I loved it.  My brother blamed my sister-in-law for the choice.  Kelly also brought a shower gift for us.  An adorable monkey hooded bath towel with a wash cloth mitt was Kayvan’s favorite.
