Day 81: Ending of a Chapter

This time next week I’ll be in labor.  If I’m lucky and the whole process is fast, I’ll already be a mom.  Kayvan and I have decided to count down to the next milestone which is our trip to L&D THIS Sunday night.  That means we are 6 days away!  That means this is my last week in the High Risk Pregnancy Department…or HRP as we familiar with hospital lingo call it.  This morning, as the lights were yanked on by the lab tech at exactly 6:00 a.m. (I just love being the first on the list) I realized that this is the LAST time I will be pulled from my beauty rest to be stuck in the arm and have the blood sucked from my body at such an hour.  Now, I am expecting the need for blood work at the end of this week…and an IV…and other medical interventions that I do not want to think about right now.  But they won’t be waking me at 6a.m. for blood draws anymore!!!  I’m looking forward to this week of “lasts.”  Some of them, like the blood draws, I’m happy to see go.  Others, like the non stress tests (yes, NSTs), ultrasounds, hearing baby’s heart rate every 4 hours during vitals and just being pregnant in general I know I’m really going to miss.  I’m sure having a baby in my arms will trump all of this. This is Kayvan’s last full weekend to get things done before the baby gets here.  It is also his last weekend at home before coming back to the hospital to stay with me full time.  That means he is out and about running errands before he and the pup come visit today.  I got a text from him at 11:15 that said, “I find going to the baby store new and exciting.”  You bet I read that one twice. I have mentioned before that I really look forward to Thursday at 2:00.  It is the one time a week that I can get out of my room for a whole hour and talk to people who in a similar position as I am.  Over the past 5 weeks or so there have been four of us who were ALWAYS there.  I would say we have all become at least good acquaintances.  Two of the women were also 34 weeks, like me.  The other is a few weeks behind me, 25 weeks, I think?…maybe 26 by now.  We have shared our pregnancy sagas with each other over the past few weeks and learned that I have been here the longest.  The girl who is 25 or 26 weeks was admitted at 22 weeks so she might beat me for the length of stay.  I hope she does!  We also learned that I was the one the doctors planned to deliver first, at 36 weeks. Day 76: Lent

I’m not Catholic but I would LOVE to give up this hospital stay for Lent.  I would be so good at it too if it weren’t for the whole requirement of starting the deal today.  Because I can’t.

All in all today is a pretty good day.  Baby was quick with his non stress test today thank goodness because I was SO tired–but for no reason.  I had one of my favorite night nurses and was able to sleep well last night.  It is interesting that how well I sleep at night completely depends on the nurse I have.  I was a bit sleepy at 11:30 last night and asked her to do my vitals 30 minutes early then went to bed.  Since I’m used to waking every 4 hours I got up at 3:30 for a potty Continue Reading Day 76: Lent…

Day 74: We Have an Induction Date!!!

The end of this marathon…no…ironman race of a hospital stay is near! We have an official induction date! The fellow came in today and said that they scheduled my induction for 3/22. That is 15 days away!!! Yippeeee! We were hoping for 3/21 since that is typically the date the Persian new year falls upon each year (it is 3/20 this year) but it really doesn’t matter. I am VERY happy we are now talking induction rather than c-section. I had a million and a half questions for the doctors but the fellow didn’t seem to have answers for me. I asked if cervidil is safe to use since I’m ruptured or if we would start with pitocin. The fellow said that my doctors are better to discuss that with me but cytotec is safe to use on ruptured patients. I just did a VERY preliminary google search on cytotec, skimmed the results and do not like what I see about that drug.

This kid is our first child and it is a boy.  But our first baby is our little French Bulldog and she is a total daddy’s girl.  Kayvan brought her up with him again today when he came to visit after dragging her lazy little butt out of bed.  He texted me first thing this morning with “It is kind of hard to sleep in with Sookie snoring in your face.”  I laughed.  Then he texted me a few minutes later with her snuggled up in bed refusing to move.   This is new, she used to snort in my face to wake me up at the crack of dawn…which meant she started sleeping in her crate. Day 71: Mixology

After quite some time of boycotting food service thanks to food from family, I am actually ordering food from the food folks here this week.  They have a new menu and just as I thought their service was mildly worth complimenting over the past two days, they messed up again yesterday.  No big deal, I’m used to it.  I am writing to share some exciting food related news.  Information I have discovered WAY too late.  This morning I wanted nothing more than a bacon egg and cheese sandwich.  That isn’t on the menu here so I ordered a cheese omelet, bacon, two pieces of toast, salt, pepper and some mayonnaise (yes, you have to specify the condiments you want).  And when they got here, I slapped them all together and it was DELICIOUS.  No, I can’t cook in here but I can assemble!  Then for lunch I was thinking of getting some milk and ice cream to stir together a chocolate milk shake.  I didn’t.  Instead I got orange sherbet and some sprite and made Continue Reading Day 71: Mixology…

Day 70: 10 Weeks

As I have now been here for 10 weeks, the fact that I have not had a full night of sleep for that length of time is really starting to affect my sunny personality.  If you think the standard new mom who returns to work is grumpy, you may not want to meet me 9 – 11 weeks from now when I make my return.  Sorry, co-workers, I promise to really try to be nice and awake, and happy.  If for some reason I show up at work and and am not as chipper as you think I should be, remember this, “Iced, Grande, Soy, White Mocha.”  Continue Reading Day 70: 10 Weeks…

Day 69: Chugging Along

Knowing that the boy is doing really well cooking on the inside, I no longer feel guilty counting down the days.  We don’t have an official induction date yet and am told we will get that next weeks sometime.  BUT.  I can count down to 36 weeks.  So that means we have 2 weeks 6 days  to go!  Yesterday the Nurse Manager checked in with us and Kayvan asked about the record for the longest stay.  I am very happy to announce that I will NOT be beating the record of 110 days.  110 days.  Poor woman.  If I go to 36 weeks exactly it will be a little over 90 days in the hospital and that is including recovery from the delivery. Day 68: 33 Weeks!

We have officially made it to 33 weeks!  Just one week left until they schedule me for induction and 3 weeks left until I am 36 weeks.  We are just trucking along now!  I have never been one to wish away time but things change and I want the next three weeks to FLY by.  After that, time can slow down again.

Kayvan and I spent some time yesterday laughing at the baby sticking his booty out to the right of his belly button.  This boy was STRETCHING and my belly was SO lopsided.  I said to Kayvan, “There he goes, showing his ass again.”  To which Kayvan responded, “Looks like he got your butt!”  Continue Reading Day 68: 33 Weeks!…
