Fall is here and our family has been super busy participating in fall festivities.  We have visited pumpkin farms, the Renaissance Festival and we even went on VACATION!  This past month has been super fun.  I’m trying to be a better blogger, honest.  But I’m having SO MUCH FUN spending time out and about with family.

I’m also crocheting like a crazy woman these days!  Check out the freshly looped hat below!  I got a request from an old high school friend for a pink and white newsboy for her daughter.  I decided it would be fun to play with textures in a new book I have.  I have to say, my hats always look better on.  This photo doesn’t do it justice, but I really like the way this hat turned out.  I hope the little lady I made it for likes it too!!

Still Wielding the [Crochet] Needle

It’s been eons since I’ve posted anything related to crochet. I AM still crocheting in my free time. What little free time I do have. I typically pick a fun project and work on it during long car rides because Kamran will FINALLY sleep in the car. If not in the car, I will work on a project if Kamran goes to bed early or if I’m staying up late on weekends.

I was cranking through baby hats for a while but lost the needle I use to sew all of the little bitty pieces on. This weekend I stopped by the craft to buy yet another needle I’m sure to lose. Kayvan took over bath time last night and I literally tied off loose ends and posted everything to the etsy store. One of my loyal fans tasked me with two new and fun projects. A puppy and a mom tattoo hat. The mom tattoo is my faaaaavorite.

Kamran is doing well. He had a cold last week but was such a trooper. He is sitting for longer periods on his own but is still not unassisted. He passes toys from hand to hand, lives solid food, which I love making for him and just started trying to pull his knees up under himself.

Day 80: BUSTED!!

Oh man, I’m so busted.  This morning I woke up feeling some kind of awful.  I was so congested.  My throat was all mucusy, my nose was absolutely stuffy, my throat was sore and I had no voice.  I couldn’t wait to jump my morning hurdles and take the hottest shower possible.  When I got in the shower, I knew I hadn’t seen the doctor yet.  As a matter of fact, I heard him knock on my door and come into my room as I was getting into the shower.  Thankfully he wasn’t a nursing student.  Well, the doctor just came by again and the first thing he said was, “That was not a 10 minute shower!  I came by 3 times.”  I laughed and told him I heard him knock as I was getting into the shower and added that I was feeling pretty congested and needed the steam.  I promised him that not all of my showers are that long.  They aren’t.  But I know I break the 10 minute rule all of the time!  What are they going to do?  Come in and drag me out?  I would rather that to a 10 minute water shut off timer (which we don’t have here).  Talk about one pissed pregnant lady! Day 77: No More 4D Pictures for us

I had an ultrasound bright and early this morning.  I think I was the first one on the list.  It was so early that I almost confused the ultrasound tech for a food service manager.  I was about 5 seconds from asking why food service was in my room at 8:15 a.m. th en I made the connection.  Oops, in fairness I had just woken up 15 minutes before.  In the chair I went, down the hall, hair a disaster, sleep in my eyes for an ultrasound.  The early morning wake up call was all worth it.  I got the good ultrasound tech.  All of the doctors and nurses want her to do their scans.  I’ve only had her once before and she was all business.  This morning, she was really fun.  Before I even got on the table she said she would see if she could get a 4D picture for us.  I didn’t even ask!  She poked the ultrasound probe around my belly taking a million pictures of my placenta.  I think I’ve seen more of that thing on the ultrasound than I have the baby.  The she poked over all of his body parts just to see where everything sat. Day 76: Lent

I’m not Catholic but I would LOVE to give up this hospital stay for Lent.  I would be so good at it too if it weren’t for the whole requirement of starting the deal today.  Because I can’t.

All in all today is a pretty good day.  Baby was quick with his non stress test today thank goodness because I was SO tired–but for no reason.  I had one of my favorite night nurses and was able to sleep well last night.  It is interesting that how well I sleep at night completely depends on the nurse I have.  I was a bit sleepy at 11:30 last night and asked her to do my vitals 30 minutes early then went to bed.  Since I’m used to waking every 4 hours I got up at 3:30 for a potty Continue Reading Day 76: Lent…

Day 69: Chugging Along

Knowing that the boy is doing really well cooking on the inside, I no longer feel guilty counting down the days.  We don’t have an official induction date yet and am told we will get that next weeks sometime.  BUT.  I can count down to 36 weeks.  So that means we have 2 weeks 6 days  to go!  Yesterday the Nurse Manager checked in with us and Kayvan asked about the record for the longest stay.  I am very happy to announce that I will NOT be beating the record of 110 days.  110 days.  Poor woman.  If I go to 36 weeks exactly it will be a little over 90 days in the hospital and that is including recovery from the delivery. Day 61: 32 WEEKS!!!

We have hit another huge milestone and I cannot believe it. I AM EIGHT MONTHS PREGNANT!!! I’m doing a darn good job of keeping my New Year’s Resolution so far. I hear reminders from the nurses at least once a week as to how far we have made it on this journey. It really is insane to think that we came in at 23 weeks. We HAVE come a long way. I am so thankful that Kayvan has been here for me every single step of the way. I know I have said it again and again but family and friends have been so amazing to us as well. Watching our pets, keeping us fed, keeping the hospital food out of my mouth and helping us prepare for the boy who has made it more than evident that he simply cannot wait to meet you all.

Baby is in a good spot–much better than the prognosis of “If you can make it to 24 weeks the baby will have a 50% chance of survival.” According to the ultrasounds he should now be able to breathe on his own outside of the womb. Hopefully he will soon have the ability to maintain his temperature and eat on his own as well. Kayvan and I were just talking last night about the fact that we went from the possibility of having a preemie in the NICU for months to having an almost full term baby hopefully come home with us…or worst case in the NICU for a few weeks. The kid isn’t here yet and we won’t know anything about how he will do until he is born. All things considered so far, we have a lot to be thankful for. Our next big milestone is 36 weeks. That is only a month away. I expect that the doctors will give me an induction date about 2 weeks from now.

I mentioned yesterday that I made quite a few new hats. They are now up for sale on Etsy. Click the photo below to be taken to the listing. I am also working on a custom order for a dinosaur hat and papoose. I can’t wait to finish it and show it to you! I should have it finished tomorrow. Don’t forget to enter the contest for a custom made hat. The deadline of February 25th is rapidly approaching!!

Now that the boy is at 32 weeks the non stress tests are a bit different. Instead of 10 and 10s, which I explained earlier are that baby has to increase his heart rate by 10 beats per minute 10 times in 10 minutes, he has to do 15 and 15s. Same concept but replace the “10” in the previous sentence with “15.” …or something like that… But, he didn’t get that memo today. He showed us lots of good variability but wasn’t quite pulling 15 and 15s. I sat on the monitors for an hour before the nurse took me off and asked if the strip looked okay enough or if I had to go for a biophysical profile ultrasound. Doc cut him a break and said the strip looked good enough.

Another new thing today is that my legs turn PURPLE after I take a shower. Mind you, I am supposed to sit on a shower stool and I do what I’m told since I don’t want my shower privileges taken away. It seems my legs have gotten used to this whole bed rest thing and figure I no longer need good circulation. Since that isn’t really the case and I would prefer to avoid blood clots should I end up with a c-section at the end o fall this, I got a new accessory to my hospital wardrobe. Compression sock thingies. They are pretty neat actually. They aren’t really socks but cuffs that go on each legs. They act sort of like a blood pressure cuff, squeezing and releasing on each leg to encourage circulation. It feels like a massage so I told Kayvan that he can now get away with only rubbing my feet. Hope these work!

Day 58: Time for a Housekeeping Rant

It seems the last two nights or so of going to bed at 1 a.m. caught up with me  and by 9 p.m. I needed toothpicks to keep my eyes open.  I was working on a flower for a hat and just could not concentrate.  Rather than fight it, I put the flower down and went to sleep.  I was up by 7:30 this morning and took extra care to be really, really quiet so Kayvan could sleep in his little cocoon next to me (he sleeps with the blanket over his head in here).  The nurse came in and whispered “Do you need anything?” to me out of courtesy to him.  I whispered on the phone when I ordered my breakfast and even left the lights off as long as I could–which wasn’t long.

Who wasn’t quiet or respectful this morning?  Housekeeping.  Seriously lady, what theee eff.  You are early.  Normally, housekeeping doesn’t come until lunch time.  When you knock and I say “come in,” rather loud I might add.  Don’t knock again and open the door before I respond to you a second time.  Then, when I whisper to you “Could you please fill the soap in the bathroom?” take a freaking hint.  As if the man sleeping next to me with a blanket over his head isn’t clue enough.  Also, after I ask you if you wouldn’t mind closing the door behind you as “Code Dr. Red” blares over the PA system in the background, do not fill the napkin dispenser in my room and SLAM it 4 times in an attempt to close it.  Even I saw that you had the thing too full.  So your real problem was not that it needed to slam closed.  You could also be nice like all of the other housekeeping people too.  There, I’ve said my piece.

Awesome hubby headed home to finish the paint job on the baby room and he did an AMAZING job.  I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it.  We’re way closer to ready for baby than we were 8 weeks ago.  Sure, there is still a lot to be done like baby laundry, assembling all of the baby stuff, steam cleaning the carpets in the baby room, etc.  But really, we are well on our way and some of the stuff that still needs to be done can wait if it absolutely has to.  Though, I’m sure it is NO FUN to assemble a baby swing.  The directions are hard enough to follow on a full night of sleep.  I don’t want to imagine figuring it all out in a sleep deprived stupor.  Check out the room!  We still need the monkey decals for the walls, but that will come later.  The rocker recliner hasn’t made it into the room yet but that will come once the carpets are steam cleaned and dry.  The little shelf that is currently next to the crib will go next to the rocker recliner.

I have a couple more hats done now too.  These two are actually custom requests.

The non stress test went well today…until literally 2 minutes before I was going to come of.  I had a stinkin contraction and they made me start all over, which means sitting on the monitor for 20 minutes.  Baby reacted well to the contraction which is good.  His heart rate dipped a little but it was at 120 which actually isn’t too bad.  I may complain about it, but I really don’t mind the non stress test.  I actually look forward to them because I get to hear my boy and it gives me peace of mind that he is doing OK in there.

Day 57: Oops I forgot to tell you…

I cannot believe I forgot to mention that yesterday was officially 8 weeks on the inside.  I’ve been sitting in the same place for 2 months.  That is absolutely nuts.  Never in a million years did I think I could do this.  What is even more nuts is that I have another month to go before I’m done.  I’m still not sure I can handle that, but it looks like I’m going to have to!  This whole crocheting thing Continue Reading Day 57: Oops I forgot to tell you……

Day 55: Hats, Hats and More Hats

So the IV is finally out, thank goodness.  I no longer have anything to whine about…which is good.  I hate being so whiny.  I’m back to typing on the computer, which means you get new hat pictures! Check them out and click the photo to see the ETSY posting.  I have made a couple of bunny hats and came up with the pattern myself, which I am pretty proud of.  I should probably work on a shamrock hat though, considering our little guy is going to be here in March instead of April.  Maybe I will make a little leprechaun hat! Or maybe I will finish that blanket I started for him…one day.  Hats are so much more fun! Continue Reading Day 55: Hats, Hats and More Hats…
