Fricking Baby Gate!!!

When we got Sookie, we bought this cheap, ugly, worthless piece of a baby gate. You get what you pay for. It was like $15 on amazon. Neither Kayvan nor I could figure out how to work the tension part and make it work appropriately. So we opted to use the lean function. I tripped over this stupid thing when I was first pregnant and at that time Sookie was good enough with the whole asking to potty thing so the gate was banished to the garage.

Fast forward to a month ago. Our cat got a UTI and started peeing everywhere but his litter box and our kid started getting more mobile. Bad combo and kitty had to be kept segregated for a bit. Welcome back stupid fricking baby gate. Only this time, Kayvan insisted on leaning it at the bottom of the stairs.

Every morning, I would walk down the stairs to find that stinking gate sitting there mocking me. I had to pick it up and move it before I could go anywhere. Sookie also wouldn’t go down the steps with it there.

Finally I complained enough for Kayvan to tell me to order new gates for the house. Not that I needed his permission as much as I needed him to say he would install them. So, order new gates I did…on a Friday, and received them the very next day…a Saturday. Thank you for $4 overnight delivery, Amazon!

The new gates are black and shiney and mount to the walls. They are too tall for me to climb over. But then, why would I? They have a hinge.

Oh, and Sookie doesn’t exactly love being contained. This is her…cussing me out.

Kamran’s First Halloween

What was Kamran for Halloween? —–A little blue monster!!

What was Sookie for Halloween? —–A hippo ballerina.

The Friday before Halloween Kamran had a parade at school. I took off of work early, skipped our work Halloween party, met up with Kayvan and watched all of the little bits at daycare parade around in their costumes. So stinkin cute!! Kamran just sat in the big red 6 child stroller straight faced observing all of the crazy people in the school parking lot. We had a ball dressing him up and seeing all of his friends.

Halloween was on a Monday this year so I got home a little early, dressed both of the babies up and we all went for a walk before the sun went down. All of the kids LOVE, LOVE, LOVED Sookie and her costume. Then we knocked on our neighbor’s door to wish them a happy Halloween. We ended up sharing our 8 x 8 plot of a front “lawn” while the adult boys drank a beer and passed out candy and the girls talked about crocheting. Eventually Kamran needed to eat so I headed in early. Kayvan made sure to come in before we ran out of candy so we could have a little for ourselves! It was a really fun night and I’m glad we got to unexpectedly hang out with our friends for a little while.

Oh, I’m Disturbing Your Sleep, Am I?

Because of Kam’s reflux and poor weight gain, Kayvan and I are feeding him every 2 hours during the day and every 3 at night.

The Zantac for sure made him less reluctant to eat but that curbed off in the evening and we were at 30 ml per meal again. We need at least 50 ml. Around 8 pm we were back to a baby who was screaming with a bottle in his mouth but had just had Zantac 30 minutes before. So we were burping him every 10 ml. I told Kayvan we needed to get some Mycolin gas drops. He ran to the store and after the next meal we dropped Mycolin in Kam’s little mouth and wham. Different baby. I went to bed to prepare for the sleepless night ahead and left Kayvan in charge of the feeds until midnight.

Well, I woke up in a panic at 2:30 am and made sure the baby was still breathing! He was SOUND asleep. Since the last meal was at midnight, I let Kam sleep until 3 when I woke him to change his poopy diaper and feed him. He could have done without that and slept but I just couldn’t let skinny boy do it. Kayvan handled the 6 am feed, which again we had to wake Kam for. At 8:30 I woke Kamran because we had to get back to a 2 hour schedule for the day and get him his Zantac. Well, I unwrapped him, changed his diaper, talked to him, rubbed him and he just squealed at me and stretched away. The boy has certainly been missing his sleep by staying up at night screaming. He made it very evident that I was disturbing him. Completely and totally. Squeaking and stretching (and pooping) during his entire meal. So glad we all got some sleep in this house last night.

Oh, and Sookie was sleeping so hard she almost fell off the bed. Silly little clown. I didn’t get a picture if that but at one point in the night I caught her sleeping like this with her head off the bed:

Of course, her eyes were closed until I pulled the camera out.

Baby Bird

I’ve mentioned that Kamran can be breastfed once a day. Well, we do that because it is not only good for him but he does really well with it. The most obvious downside to him being in the NICU is that I can’t be there 100% of the time and therefore he has to be bottle fed my breast milk. Best substitute. Well, the poor kid is just plain confused. He always opens wide like a little baby bird when he is bottle fed and doesn’t quite latch well. Bottles don’t work like that. And for some reason, he does the opposite when he is breast fed at first. Once I break the bad first latch it just clicks for him. The nurse said to buy him an avent single hole bottle to try out today. They usually require a new bottle and nipple for each use but we shall see how this pans out. Fingers crossed it works. Day 80: BUSTED!!

Oh man, I’m so busted.  This morning I woke up feeling some kind of awful.  I was so congested.  My throat was all mucusy, my nose was absolutely stuffy, my throat was sore and I had no voice.  I couldn’t wait to jump my morning hurdles and take the hottest shower possible.  When I got in the shower, I knew I hadn’t seen the doctor yet.  As a matter of fact, I heard him knock on my door and come into my room as I was getting into the shower.  Thankfully he wasn’t a nursing student.  Well, the doctor just came by again and the first thing he said was, “That was not a 10 minute shower!  I came by 3 times.”  I laughed and told him I heard him knock as I was getting into the shower and added that I was feeling pretty congested and needed the steam.  I promised him that not all of my showers are that long.  They aren’t.  But I know I break the 10 minute rule all of the time!  What are they going to do?  Come in and drag me out?  I would rather that to a 10 minute water shut off timer (which we don’t have here).  Talk about one pissed pregnant lady! Day 73: Daddy’s Girl

This kid is our first child and it is a boy.  But our first baby is our little French Bulldog and she is a total daddy’s girl.  Kayvan brought her up with him again today when he came to visit after dragging her lazy little butt out of bed.  He texted me first thing this morning with “It is kind of hard to sleep in with Sookie snoring in your face.”  I laughed.  Then he texted me a few minutes later with her snuggled up in bed refusing to move.   This is new, she used to snort in my face to wake me up at the crack of dawn…which meant she started sleeping in her crate. Day 68: 33 Weeks!

We have officially made it to 33 weeks!  Just one week left until they schedule me for induction and 3 weeks left until I am 36 weeks.  We are just trucking along now!  I have never been one to wish away time but things change and I want the next three weeks to FLY by.  After that, time can slow down again.

Kayvan and I spent some time yesterday laughing at the baby sticking his booty out to the right of his belly button.  This boy was STRETCHING and my belly was SO lopsided.  I said to Kayvan, “There he goes, showing his ass again.”  To which Kayvan responded, “Looks like he got your butt!”  Continue Reading Day 68: 33 Weeks!…

Day 67: Sherpa Sookie

I shared a midday picture of Sookie on her way to see me yesterday!  Well, she made it and with her, she brought momma some chicken nuggets and french fries from McDonalds.  The amount of McDonalds I have eaten during this pregnancy is obscene.  Especially since in the 8 years prior to being pregnant I maybe had McDonalds 4 times.  I can’t help it, their french fries and BBQ sauce are the best combination EVER.  It has been a favorite of mine since childhood.  Being pregnant, it is impossible to abstain.

Sookie arrived via Sherpa (bag), hopped out and sniffed around the room.  We ended up having to sneak her in because the pet people never called us back to give us a “golden ticket” which is just a little permission slip to give security.  Sookie seriously loves her Sherpa.  Leave it to a lazy doggie.  It really didn’t involve much sneaking since once Kayvan hits our floor the nurses all want to say hi to our girl.

Day 66: Who Was a Total Pill Yesterday?

Me, me, meeee!!!

My poor husband deserves an award.  Most days, I have to admit, I am a remarkably awesome person to spend all of your time with.  Yesterday was NOT one of those days.  I wasn’t grumpy or mean, I was just a total whiny pain.  I cannot tell you how many times “I’m BORRRRRRRRED” came out of my mouth.  He knew to do nothing about my complaint.  I have plenty to do and have always been a self starter.  He knows that if I really and truly wanted to do something about my boredom I could have picked up a book (I have about 20 that I still need to make my way through), I could crochet, watch a DVD, play on the internet, call or text with friends, the list goes on…I have plenty to DO.  Problem is, yesterday just was not a patient day for me and I was SO not up for the repetition.  It didn’t help that we lost about 10 channels on TV here, one being TLC.  I don’t know how that happens but it has happened once before during my 9 week stay.  So I re-discovered an old addiction.  Bejeweled on my phone. Continue Reading Day 66: Who Was a Total Pill Yesterday?…
