Day 8: A Year in Review

Yesterday turned out to be full of visitors which made the day go by quickly.  Dave and Catherine left baby Luke with his grandparents for a few hours and came up to visit us.  We haven’t seen them since Luke was born so it was nice to see them.  I still need to meet Mr. Luke.  Heather and Millie came up later in the day and Heather had CUPCAKES in tow!  One of the many reasons I love that girl.  Her momma taught her how to bake.  I’m normally a vanilla cupcake chick so I had one of those for me and then after dinner the baby asked for a chocolate cupcake so I ate one of those too.  Heather bought enough to share with the nurses.  We’ve shared with a few of the nurses but I haven’t had the heart to send the whole box to the masses just yet.  That’s what they get for taking my food away the other day!!  My cousin Crystal and her son Dezmond also stopped by last night.  It was nice to see both of them and get a family Christmas recap from her.  I can’t wait to see the pictures!  (HINT HINT)  They Continue Reading Day 8: A Year in Review…

Day 7: One WHOLE Week!

December 30, 2010 at 5:07 PM | Posted in Baby Romaezi | 9 Comments

Can you believe we’ve been here for a week?  I can’t.  I’m not normally one to wish time away but thankfully this week has flown by.

The non-stress test lasted a little longer than we like this morning with the doctor coming in to look at the fetal heart rate 3 times and leaving after he said, “We will watch you for a few more minutes.”  I felt like a little kid being told “one more bite” over and over.  Baby boy had a few dips that they didn’t like–again–but eventually straightened his stuff out.  The doctor pops in each morning on his rounds and I have taken to telling him I don’t want to see him again until tomorrow.  Of course, today he didn’t listen at first but I think I’m done with him for the day.  Don’t get me wrong, he’s really great but it Continue Reading Day 7: One WHOLE Week!…

Jamie’s Favorite Things!!!

The standard routine went well this morning. No fever, low blood pressure but the doctors are okay with that, good fetal heart rate and only one contraction during the non-stress test.

Momma in law brought Peruvian chicken for dinner and I think that may have been the very best meal I’ve had in a really really long time. Sister-in-law and her fam stopped by for a bit yesterday and brought along girlie smelly things for me now that I can shower. They also brought along some ADORABLE cupcake ornaments for the tree. Way cute, can’t wait to put them on the tree next year too. Kayvan and I decided that this tree is going to go in kiddo’s room every Christmas. It’s only fitting since that’s how we started out.

Okay, so I’m not Oprah but I thought it would be light hearted and fun to share my favorite things from the past week with all of you.

Day 6: You’re So Teeny!

Words no pregnant wants to hear. “You’re so small!” The first few days down in Labor and Delivery I heard it a TON. Probably because they are used to hanging out with mommas who are 40 weeks pregnant. I was 23 weeks and that’s a big difference. I even heard it a lot from co-workers before I landed myself in the hospital. I’m a little girl and I’m pregnant with a boy so I was all belly. But I had a

Day 5: It Seems Mornings are Rough!

All in all we got a decent night’s sleep on the new floor. We started to stream “The Girl Who Played with Fire” last night using the crappy WIFI they have here and that didn’t work out so well at first. I knew that once we got it playing I would zonk out. Which I did. I think I made it 10 minutes into the movie. Oh well, something to look forward to tonight. The nurses came in at midnight and 4 a.m. to bug me for vitals, temperature, baby’s heart rate, etc. but other than that I slept well. I was STARVING again by 5 a.m. but forced myself back to sleep. Eventually I got to order breakfast.

Then the doctors got to work for the day and before I could eat my food we did a bit more monitoring of baby. You see, there is pretty much no amniotic fluid left for him so we are really worried about umbilical cord compression. He had a few dips in heart rate this morning that the doctors didn’t like. So they strapped me back up to the monitors for a few hours and told me no breakfast until kiddo

Do you see that!!!??? That’s right. Real solid food and it is on MY plate. I got to eat food today people. Once the magnesium got itself out of my system I started to get HUNGRY and the nurses came in with a menu and said I can have FOOD now! It was just chicken noodle soup and a baked potato but I had to take it easy. I wasn’t too sure how my body would react to food after having that nasty magnesium but I didn’t get sick.

This morning after they took me off of the magnesium the doctor wanted to watch baby’s heart rate for 2 hours. After 3 hours I guess she wasn’t a huge fan of what she saw because she came in and said she wanted to watch us for another few. Eventually, baby got his bearings about him and straightened that

Day 4: Officially off of the Magnesium

Morning folks! It seems today is a big one. The doctors took me off of the magnesium at about 7:00 a.m. Right now we are watching baby to make sure he keeps it up with the good heart rate. If all goes well for the next couple of hours I might even get some solid food soon. Wonder what they will feed me. Care to place any bets? Stick them in the comments section for me. 🙂

It really is the strangest thing. I haven’t had a single thing to eat since 8 p.m. on the 22nd and am completely not hungry. I guess this IV is doing it’s job. Yesterday I wasn’t hungry but just wanted to TASTE something. That’s where the Popsicles come in. Doc just said I can have one but really, I don’t even want that right now.

Now that I’m off of the magnesium I am feeling better. More awake, less lethargic and most certainly no where near as awful as I felt

Day 3: Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

I am so thrilled to have slept last night. The first night of sleep was awful and pretty much non-existent as the doctors and nurses tried to figure out the appropriate magnesium level for me. Now that we seem to have the dosage about right it really impacts the way I feel. I don’t feel on fire all the time, no more double vision–hence my ability to actually create this blog and think straight.

The best Christmas present of them all however is that baby is still in my belly. That’s all I want for Christmas is to keep this kid in.

As a matter of fact. I have just changed my New Year’s resolution to “Keep baby in belly until April.” AND the only thing I want for my birthday is the same. I’ll be in here for both of those celebrations as

…and LOTS more to go!

If you’ve done the math, you will notice that day two fell on Christmas Eve. On day one I was so incredibly bummed to realize I would be spending Christmas Eve in the hospital. Actually, once I decided that baby is going to be 100% okay with all of the care he is receiving I was more bummed about missing all of the holiday festivities.

Turns out I didn’t need to be. I have SUCH an amazing support system. You guys are all so wonderful. Kayvan has been absolutely incredible. Dad came up and so did Kayvan’s mom, we couldn’t keep them away. Knowing Millie was working from home that day, I also asked Kayvan to call her so he would have some relief to actually pack a hospital bag and prepare for the road ahead the next few weeks (hopefully months).

Day 1: Here’s What Happened

We don’t really know why, but at 3:30 a.m. on 12/23/2010 the amniotic sac ruptured. I woke up a bit wet and let Kavyan know what happened. Since I am only 23 weeks pregnant we spent a few minutes debating what on earth the problem could be, called our doctor and by 5:00 a.m I was admitted to Labor and Delivery.

After I was poked, prodded and asked a million questions, my doctor came in to confirm that my water had broken and I was indeed leaking amniotic fluid. Now that we have this information, what to do? KEEP THIS BABY IN!

As long as he is in the womb, baby will continue to make amniotic fluid and the doctors will let him stay put as long as there is no infection. So to ward off any infection, the doctors put me on an antibiotic.
